KARL FRITSCH (b. 1963 in Sonthofen, Germany) lives and works in Wellington. Recent group shows include: The Turnov Collection at the National Museum of Archaeology, Lisbon; Yellow Metals Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and Collect at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. In 2010, City Gallery Wellington launched his one-person retrospective exhibition Scenes From The Munich Diamond Disaster showing a diverse range of works from Fritsch’s oeuvre — with over 350 works on display. This exhibition is being presently shown at the Deutsche Goldschmiedehaus in Hanau.
Karl Fritsch curated the current exhibition Danner Rotunda in The Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich. Die Neue Sammlung has been showcasing contemporary international jewelry art, alongside fine art, architecture, graphic art and design.
His work has been acquired by leading international museums and distinguished publiccollections including: Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Pinakothek of Modern Art, Munich; Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Museum Turnov, Czech Republic; Museum of Decorative Arts, Montréal, Canada; Victoria and Albert Museum London; Auckland War Memorial Museum; and the National Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington. Fritsch has delivered guest lectures, and taken up visiting professorships at the Rietveld Academy,Amsterdam; the University of the Arts, Philadelphia; Rhode Island School ofDesign, Providence; New York University, New York; and the Royal College ofArt, London. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the RMIT University, Melbourne.
