JAMES AND ELEANOR AVERY

Fontana Amstrada

FEBRUARY 25 - MARCH 14, 2009

OPENING EVENT

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 27, 6-8PM

Back home here in Australia, James and Eleanor have enjoyed much success including their February 2008 solo exhibition SUPERNOVA at the Grant Pirrie Gallery in Sydney. Supernova was a large scale, mixed media sculptural installation. Resting dramatically in the centre of the gallery, the sculpture paired a star-like timber structure suspended on scaffolding with glitzy home craft and retro artifacts. Materials such as gold vinyl and crystal catch and refract light, contributing to a feeling of other worldly possibility. Supernova anticipates our attempts to interpret and understand contemporary culture. James and Eleanor investigate the power of visual language on our imagination, as well as the fantastical outcomes of amateur physics.
